Individual Volunteers

We involve volunteers in every aspect of our organization.

Check out the many opportunities at New Life!

We’re always in need of more volunteers. Feel free to contact us if the shift you’re interested in is already full.

Our in-person opportunities are currently limited to those ages 12 and over. Though younger volunteers are encouraged to get involved in other ways! Ages 12-14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, who also must sign up.

Household Goods

Gently-used household goods are donated for people transitioning out of homelessness. Every household item is carefully checked by our volunteers before packing them into kits.

Household Goods Sorter

Whether you’re an organization connoisseur or just enjoy working with your hands without having to lift anything heavy, sorting is the right fit for you. Organize household goods for people transitioning from homelessness by sorting donations, packing starter kits, making dish or glass sets, testing appliances or lamps, or inspecting linens under the direction of a Team Leader.

Furniture

Just like household goods, all furniture that comes in has to be inspected. Volunteers clean, inventory, and move these donations into the showroom to be selected by clients. At the conclusion of the entire process, the furniture is gathered to be delivered to their new home.

Furniture Processor

Every piece of furniture that is donated has to be checked and recorded as a vital part of our operation. Inspect, clean, and inventory furniture and help unload light-weight donations during drop-off.

Furniture Mover

Work out your arms and do good for the community at the same time. This shift can vary in task! Furniture Movers help receive donations, move furniture into our showroom for clients to choose, or even gather client orders.

Client Appointments

Clients are served either in-person or virtually and volunteers are essential to that process. Every single item of furniture is photographed so volunteers can make their selections in the online store.

In-person Client Host

Picking lamps, a table, dishes, and more when you’re starting out with little to nothing can be overwhelming. Client Hosts make the process easier for our clients. Guide clients through their furniture selection in our showroom. All In-person Client Hosts are trained and have the opportunity to shadow other volunteers before starting. This is an occasional commitment.

Virtual Client Host

Picking lamps, a table, dishes, and more when you’re starting out with little to nothing can be overwhelming. Client Hosts make the process easier for our clients. Guide clients through their furniture selection using a conference line and our online furniture bank store from the comfort of your own home. All Virtual Client Hosts are trained and have the opportunity to shadow other volunteers before starting. This is a weekly commitment.

Uploader

Ever wonder how an online store works? Get behind the scenes as part of our virtual furniture bank uploading items to the online store to ensure sufficient inventory for clients. The New Life team will advise on which items to upload each week. This is a weekly commitment that requires training.

And the rest!

Volunteers truly do it all at New Life. Here are some other ways you can get involved.

Truck Crew

Hit the road with our drivers to pick up furniture from homes and businesses in the area! Pickups are essential to having enough furniture to offer clients. Don’t worry, our experienced staff and volunteer drivers will drive the truck.

Evening Volunteers

Are evenings better for your schedule? Join us after school or work. This shift will vary based on the needs of the organization, but can include everything from processing bed frames to cleaning furniture. Regardless of whether you’re comfortable moving furniture, we have something you can do.

Painters & Repairers

Perform general repairs on furniture. New volunteers welcome. If you are a new volunteer to paint/repairs, please contact Amanda Hartley, Volunteer & Operations Coordinator, at amanda.hartley@newlifefb.org.
Please note this is a self-guided activity. There is no Team Leader. You choose your activity:
1) Repair and assemble furniture, both gently used and new. Some experience repairing, woodworking or reupholstering is strongly advised, though there’s no need to be an expert! Sometimes brand new furniture needs to be assembled too.
2) Grab your paintbrush! Paint furniture that’s surface needs a refresh to give to clients. Some experience painting furniture is recommended, but no need to be an expert!

This is an opportunity for younger volunteers to be involved in our warehouse! Tasks will range from cleaning furniture to moving lighter weight items, depending on the comfort level of the volunteer.
Open to 12-13

Duty Officer

Duty Officers oversee the drop-off shift, identify tasks for the day, and partner with Team Leaders to solve problems. This is a great leadership opportunity for experienced volunteers.
