Criteria for Trashing an Item<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Will it cost more in materials or time to fix it than it’s worth?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
  • Lumber, hardware, or intricate fixes come at a high cost<\/li>
  • Examples of not worth fixing:<\/span>
    • missing drawers<\/li>
    • missing legs or top<\/li>
    • complicated reupholstering<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
      \n

      Will the repair hold or look okay? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      • Split legs or chair backs (i.e. anything that takes pressure)<\/span> usually don’t last after repair<\/li>
      • Massive cracks are hard to hide even after being glued<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        Is it a high need item?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        • Items we get a lot of sometimes aren’t worth being fixed e.g. dining chairs<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n

          How to Trash an Item<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          When an item is unsalvageable…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Remove working hardware and put away in repair supplies.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          • Knobs<\/li>
          • Handles<\/li>
          • Shelf pins<\/li>
          • Wheels<\/li>
          • Threaded feet i.e. feet that can be screwed in<\/span><\/li>
          • Other intact pieces<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            2. Detach remaining metal parts and dispose of in metal recycling.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            3. If it’s a small item, throw out remaining pieces in the dumpster behind the loading dock.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
            \n

            3. If it’s a large item, apply a trash sticker. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
