Follow these tips to use your appointment time wisely. You will be limited to one hour and cannot go into another client’s appointment time.
What furniture will fit? #
Measure the doorways, stairwells, and hallways that furniture will need to go through to get inside. #
1. Measure the height (A) and width (B) of all doors and hallways. When measuring doors, make sure measure the inside of the doorframe.
2. Measure the clearance length between the wall in the hallway and the wall inside the room. In other words, assess whether the furniture will hit anything getting it inside.
3. Measure any sharp turns (90 degree angle), including stairwells, to get into your apartment or rooms.
- Will a long couch make the turn?
- Will a large dresser make the turn?
- Will a large table make the turn?
4. Measure and assess the width of the stairwell – taking into account banisters, ceiling clearance, and any 90 degree turns.
Using entryway measurements, determine if the furniture will fit through entryways. #
Doorway Width #
The width of the doorway (B) measured in Step 1 must be greater than the item depth or height.
Item Width #
If the clearance (C) measured in Step 2 is longer the item width, then the item can be moved in horizontally.
OR
If the entryway clearance (C) is shorter than the item width, then the item can be moved in vertically (turned on its side), So, the entryway height (A) measured in Step 1 should exceed the item width.
Tape it out to determine if the furniture will fit once it’s in the room. #
You can use tape or other objects to mark how the furniture can fit in your apartment. In other words, make a floor plan!
This will tell you if the furniture will all fit once it’s inside the apartment.
